Your April message from Anne O’Connor, HSE Interim Director General

Watch here: this month Anne spoke to new and existing champions at the Values in Action boot camp in Dublin.

We learned the sad news that Laura Brennan, a leading light in our HPV campaign, passed away. Anne acknowledges Laura’s work in helping us to increase the HPV vaccine uptake rates to 70%.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. BowelScreen is urging everyone aged 60 to 69 to take a free home test. Visit for more information.

5 May 2019 is Hand Hygiene Day. On this day we are asking all health care workers to focus on hand hygiene to reduce the spread of infection.

Anne would also like to congratulate and welcome Paul Reid as the new HSE Director General. Paul is due to take up the post on the 14 May 2019.
