The SPHeRE (Structured Population and Health-services Research Education) Programme (formerly the HRB Scholars Programme) is proud to announce the launch of an innovative and ambitious SPHeRE Postgraduate Diploma in Population Health and Health Services Research (PHHSR).
This online Level 9 Diploma is targeted at, but not limited to, practising medical and allied healthcare professionals, social workers, health systems managers and researchers working across the health sector who wish to develop and build on existing expertise in population health and health services research.
It aims to provide students with the capacity to understand, commission and undertake population health and health services research. Students will be connected to an expanding multidisciplinary SPHeRE Network of PHHSR researchers and practitioners throughout the Irish health system and after two years will hold an academic qualification that links and strengthens clinical, professional and management practice.
The Diploma is jointly awarded by the The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin & University College Cork and is run part-time over 2 years, with three modules per year. Each module will be run over 8 weeks and incorporates online lectures, weekly online interaction with course providers and an end of module assignment.
Module 1: Perspectives on Population Health and Health Services Research
Module 2: Applied Research Methods
Module 3: Health Systems, Policy and Management
Module 4: Systematic Reviewing and Protocol Development
Module 5: Working with Health Information and Data
Module 6: Health Economics
Interested applicants are required to hold a Level 8 primary degree (or equivalent) in health, social science, statistics, economics or a related discipline*. It is recommended students have a modern computer, of no more than four years old and a wired or wireless broadband connection with minimum of 1Mb download speed. * A cognate Master’s Degree may also qualify for admission. In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a primary degree of a sufficient level may be recommended for entry to the programme following a review of their individual qualifications and experience by the Joint Course Committee.
