WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?

The new EU General DP Regulation has recently been published, and represents the most significant global development in data protection law since the EU Data Protection Directive. The well-known eight Rules of the 1995 EU Directive have not gone away, but they have received a re-vamp, as have many other key aspects, and there are several new important changes to be aware of.

It provides for fines of up to 4% of global turnover for data protection breaches and a whole host of new provisions which will greatly affect how we do business. These changes, combined with the Max Schrems v Facebook decision invalidating the Safe Harbor method of transfer of data to the US, and the Google Spain/Right to be forgotten case mean that there has never been a more important time to understand data protection.

Data gathering, data management and data security are high profile and important topics, and arguably the highest profile sector under the spotlight for compliance and proper process is the healthcare sector. A full understanding of your obligations, the law and security requirements when related to your management of data security is vital.

This intensive one-day CPD course will offer expert insight and information on important issues such as how Data Protection applies to the health sector, what can and cannot be done with patient information, the 8 essential Data Protection principles, practicalities of compliance, the key responsibilities of data control officers, how to conduct an audit, guidelines on data management & retention, and much more. On top of this, our tutor Kate Colleary, who is one of Ireland’s best regarded data protection lawyers, will answer any specific questions you might have relating to how Data Protection Law applies to your organisation, ensuring that you learn specific, relevant information that you can put to use immediately, and help ensure that you remain compliant. You will also receive a full course pack to refer back to at any time.
