In August 2016 the Committee published its first interim report. It identified 12 work streams across a number of key areas:

  6. Access to Care
  7. Quality and Safety
  8. Resource Allocation
  9. Organisational Reform
  10. Workforce Planning
  11. Stakeholder Consultation
  12. Implementation and Monitoring


Given the range of issues for discussion and analyses, the Committee on the Future of Healthcare sought to amend its terms of reference and this was agreed in Dail Eireann on the 13th December 2016. The Committee have agreed to publish a full report on its work in April 2017. In the interim the Committee have published the below report:

It is worth noting that the interim report submissions prioritised health promotion and prevention and “children’s groups emphasised the need to invest in early childhood development, health promotion and preventive services.” Presentations to the committee have shown an “overwhelming consensus on the critical importance of health promotion and prevention of ill-health in the interest of both improved public health and financial sustainability.”
