This February the Community Addiction Studies QQI (formerly FETAC) Award Level 5  will start in DIT, Augiers Street  and Motivational Interviewing course will be running in All Hallows College.


The Community Addiction Studies QQI Award Level 5 course runs over ten weeks and is aimed at participants who wish to expand their knowledge of addiction, drugs and their use/misuse.  The programme is delivered as a part time course consisting of 24 hours face to face learning with another 12 hours online contribution/discussion time. A total of 36 hours contact time between student and lecturer. A further 30 hours of self-directed learning is recommended for successful completion of the module by the learner.

Motivational Interviewing Workshop

This workshop is run over two days, Thursday and Friday, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.  Developed by Miller and Rollnick. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered approach that elicits behavioral changes by assisting individuals to explore and resolve ambivalence. This approach is especially helpful with individuals who are less motivated. Research has shown Motivational Interviewingto be helpful with a wide range of client groups and issues. This two day course will equip the attendees with a sound understanding of Motivational Interviewing theory and skills.


NOTE: This workshop has been approved by An Bord Altranais, The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland and The Psychological Society of Ireland for CPD points.

How to Book – 1) Personal Booking:

In order to book a place on a course:

  • All participants must complete the online application form by clicking on the ‘Book Now’ button on the course page of our website.
  • Submit a non-refundable deposit of €200 or submit the course fees in full.

For standard bookings where a deposit has been paid:

The balance of all course fees must be paid in full no later than 5 working days before the course start date. Students with outstanding fees will not be permitted to begin the course.


Forms of Payment:

After you have completed the online application form you can choose to pay immediately by credit/laser card.


How to Book – 2) Funded by organisation or funding body:

If you are being funded to attend the course we would need an email or letter stating that the relevant person/funding body/organisation has read and agreed to the attached booking terms and conditions and that funding has been approved for the candidate. We can then issue the funding body with a formal invoice by post and/or email to secure the booking.

Please note that places are not held until a formal invoice has been issued or a deposit of €200 per person has been submitted. Note that once the official invoice has been issued this is considered a formal booking and the funding body/organisation is then liable for all payment terms and conditions and places are held for the candidates for the time periods outlined in the invoice.

How to Book – 3) Funded by DSP (Department of Social Protection) or FAS:
If you are seeking DSP funding to attend this course you should take this email and a printed copy of the attached course outline to your Local Employment Office. You will then be given a TESG form which must be posted to us so that we can sign and stamp it.

When you get this form back you should take it back to your Local Employment Services Office and they will then need to send us the TESG Funding Approval Form.

IMPORTANT: DSP pay course fees after the student has completed the course. Anyone seeking funding from DSP is required to submit a €200 security deposit to secure their place on the course. This deposit must be paid within 5 working days of funding approval to confirm a place on the course. Please note that places are not held until a deposit of €200 per person has been submitted. It can be submitted by booking online with a debit/credit card, cheque, postal order or bank draft.  The security deposit is held by The Learning Curve Institute as security in case the learner does not complete the course. Final funding application forms must be completed at the end of the course by the student and The Learning Curve to confirm the course has been completed and then submitted to the DSP. Once The Learning Curve Institute receives payment from DSP we will reimburse the learner immediately . Please be aware the student will be liable for the full course fee if they do not complete the course.
